Happy Navratri, Bathukamma and Vijayadasami/Dussera to all.
Vijayadasami/Dussera is an Indian festival celebrated to honor Lord Rama’s victory over the 10 headed demon Ravana. Also to honor Goddess Durga’s victory over demon Mahishasura.
In Central and northern part of India Navarathri is celebrated for 9 days, before Dussera, to honor the goddess/Devi Maa in her various forms.
All over India Dussera is celebrated on the 10 th day.
Another festival is celebrated for 9 days around this time. It is exclusively celebrated in the state of Telangana. The festival of flowers, Bathukamma. 2 days after Bathukamma comes Dussera. Below are Bathukamma (Flower stack) Pics.
I know, lots of festivals right. Even with different beliefs and regions, all these are celebrated to honor the Devi Ma/ The Goddess, in their own way.
As a kid it was my favorite festival coz we used to get big time vacation starting from Dussera to Diwali. We used to have so much fun during this time. Visiting Grandma's home, meeting cousins, new clothes, festive food and last but not least fire crackers.
During these 10 days, Various festive foods are prepared and they vary depending on region.I have put together a list of Festive Recipes from the blog. Click the recipe. Enjoy all you can. May you have loads of blessings from Devi ma.
