Healthy Breakfast recipe 4: Apple Oats milkshake

Written By Praveena Gudipati on Sunday, June 7, 2015 | 11:12 PM

A great breakfast recipe to have on the go. Inspired by McDonalds breakfast where they serve Oatmeal with apple pieces, raisins n maple syrup. My Husband loves it. Sometimes he is in a hurry to get to work, i would give him a Smoothie or milkshake  to have on the go along with Breakfast Dabba.

Since I was blogging Healthy Breakfast once a week series, as part of it I thought of posting this milkshake. Also check my Healthy Breakfast recipes 1,2,3 for more healthy breakfast ideas.

Oatmeal in this milkshake provides the necessary carbs, fiber, Iron and many more nutrients.Raisins are rich in fiber, Iron. Well milk will be the protein source. If you are a vegan you can use soy milk in place of regular milk.Honey can be substituted with any of your favorite sweeteners like splenda, sugar, stevia etc.

Ingredients: (I use US standard measuring; 1cup=8oz=250ml)
1.5 Apple
1/4 cup Quick oats
2 tbsp Raisins
3/4 cup-1 cup 2% milk or soy milk
1-2 tbsp honey

Apple Oats milkshake step-by-step Recipe

  1. Soak raisins in warm water for 5 minutes. This will help soften them in order to blend smooth.
  2. Chop apple into small pieces.
  3. In a heated pan roast oats without oil for a minute or less. This is optional.I did not do it. It will remove raw oats taste to some extent.
  4. Blend all together to thick milkshake.
  5. You can add more milk to thin the milk shake. When adding more milk add more honey for sweetness.
  6. Your breakfast on the go is ready.

Tips:

  • You can adjust oatmeal quantity as per your liking.
