A big bowl full of foamy, fermented Lentil rice batter getting onto a hot griddle with a sizzling sound is an usual morning ritual in many south indian homes. These thin crepes which are famously known as Dosa/Dosai are then served with many kinds pf Dips.
Dosa is a healthy and wholesome breakfast coz it has carb and protein sources. Cooked with oil, it will provide the necessary fats. Served then with various protein or vegetable dips extra nutrition.
At my home we serve Dosa with Peanut Chutney and Karappodi (Idli Karam) , sometimes accompanied by Sambar. When I get bored of this combo I make Roasted bengalgram( Dalia/Putnalu) chutney, Potato curry, Tomato chutney, ginger chutney or Onion chutney. Uffff, not sure if I covered all :-) but eventually you will see more recipe on the blog.
I also make many kinds of Dosa at home so we don't get bored of eating same thing. Many of em are made by incorporating a healthy ingredient yet keeping the deliciousness intact. Do check out my Ragi Dosa, Oats Dosa (No fermentation), Ragi Poha Dosa, Jowar Dosa, Quinoa Dosa, Multigrain Dosa ( No fermentation), Jowar Dosa( No fermentation) and finally cousins of Dosa like Kuzhi Paniyaram (Appe/Guntapongalalu) and modern variation for lunch boxes, Egg Dosa.
Now lets come back to Onion chutney recipe:-). The important thing is, when I Say 1 onion in the recipe, it's the US size where it's as big as an Orange, Lol! I also mention in many recipe what variety of tomato I'm using simply to give idea of Tomato size. Roma tomatoes are smaller, beefsteak tomatoes are huge.
