From Trash to treasure; Painted Vase

It’s isolation time due to Covid-19. I was itching to do something creative. I was about to trash an empty Maple syrup bottle but my son said, 'let’s paint this." Thanks to my baby we did something productive 😀. You can practice this craft with your kids. It would be so much fun.

Materials
  • Empty Costco Maple syrup bottle or any other plastic bottle
  • Acrylic paints (any brand would do. You can find em in walmart, hobby lobby too)
  • Acrylic paint brushes
  • Palette or use Paper plates
  • Sharpie Fine Point marker or use Pencil
  • Water to clean brushes. Keep water in a wide bottle or use n throw cup
  • Protective mat to paint
  • Paper napkins to clean
  • Floral stencil if you don't want to draw

Directions :
  1. Clean maple syrup bottle with soap and water. Remove label on it. You can dip bottle in hot water to remove label. Scrub if needed. Dry it completely.
  2. Now paint base coat on bottle. I used white color. You can use any color you want. Paint in one direction so it looks smooth. Don’t go back n forth. Go in Straight lines up n down for better finish.
  3. Let paint dry.
  4. Apply second coat. If any gaps are there they will be covered now.
  5. Let it dry.
  6. Now using a sharpie or a color pencil draw any design you like. You can even use stencils. I drew warli images. I have been planning to do Warli painting for so long, I exected it on the vase.
  7. Now take Acrylic colors of choice on to a palette. Or try free hand painting.
  8. Fill your drawings with paint. I used liner brush for thin outlines and bigger brush to fill.
  9. Clean brush with water to switch to another color or use multiple brush.
  10. If something messes up, you can paint over it to correct it.
  11. You can also use something round to paint polka dots. Backside of a pencil etc.
  12. Let paint dry.  You can top coat it with Acrylic Varnish to protect the finish. Let it dry.
  13. Keep some beautiful flowers in vase. Place it in your desired place.
My Warli design
I drew three figures shown below with the design in between as shown in last pic.You can use colorful permanent Sharpies for finer details.
