Ever tasted Chegodi Chudwa (Chivda using Chakli)  from street side Bandi wala? It's common food to be found on street side in Telangana. Growing up it’s one of my favorite snack.

The Chudwa is made with Rice flour Chakli which we call Chegodi. These are made using Murukku press. There is another Chegodi with is made from Rice flour and small circular ones. Do not use that one.You can use home made  Chakli for this recipe or for a quick evening time snack, make with store bought Chakli. If you want to make Chakli at home, click link below for my recipe:

This Chudwa (Chevda) goes well with Tea. This is my most favorite combo 😍. If not a Tea drinker serve with Mango lassi, Raspberry lemonde. Especially on a summer day, this combo will be a killer combo. It makes a fun Tea party snack too if you serve in Paper cones like Bandi wala.  So here is my short ,easy snack recipe:

Servings:
3-4

Total time:
20 minutes

Ingredients (I use US standard measuring; 1cup=8oz=250ml):
  • 1 Pack Rice Chakli (Store bought or home made)
  • 2 tbsp Peanuts or more if you like
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1/2 Cup thick Poha (Flattened rice)
  • Salt to adjust
  • 1/2 tsp Chilli powder or adjust
  • 2-3 tbsp Green Vatana (dried green Peas/Batani) optionally
  • 1/2 cup Murmura (Puffed rice), You can use Bhel mixture instead
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice or adjust
  • 1/4 cup Boondi or Boondi mixture
  • Oil to deep fry
  • Paper cones for serving
you can add ingredients more or less as per your liking. Keep more Chakli and everything else is flexible.

Chegodi Chudwa recipe

  1. Soak Green or white Vatana (Peas/Batani the kind you use to make Ragada) for 6 hrs. Cook em till they are soft but not mushy. This part is optional but I love their presence n the recipe.Do not use frozen green peas. It doesn’t go well. You can instead use store bought fried green peas or skip.
  2. Crush Chakli with hand or pulse in a mixie jar. Don’t make a powder. We need small pieces. Take in a wide bowl.
  3. Heat oil in a kauai/wok.
  4. Deep fry 1/2 cup thick Poha. Sprinkle little salt once done. Add this to Chakli bowl.
  5. Deep fry or roast Peanuts in 1 tsp oil. Since I’m frying Poha, I fried Peanuts in that oil. Sprinke salt and add to Chakli bowl.
  6. Dry roast Murmura on medium flame to turn em crunchy. It takes few minutes. Add this to the bowl. You can also use Bhel mix instead.
  7. Add sore bought Boondi if you have. You can also add Boondi mixture instead.
  8. Add finely chopped onions , chili powder, lemon juice.
  9. Mix well and leave it aside for 10 minutes. It has to soften lil bit.
  10. Serve with Tea or as it is. Serve in Paper cones during Tea parties.

Tips:
You can make variations to it by adding more or less of each ingredient. Also adding tomatoes, grate carrot even though it’s not authentic :-).
