Phool Makhana or Fox nuts are the seeds harvested from a species of water lily. These Pearl white Makhana make a great snack especially for Kids. Also makes a great snack for unexpected guests along with a cup of Tea/Cofee.
Roasted Makhana are delicious, crunchy, airy like Popcorn. These are bland so you can flavor it with your favorite seasonings.For kids I just roast them with Ghee/Butter and salt. For Vegans, use Coconut oil or any oil.You can find these Makhana in any Indian store.

Ingredients:
- 2 Cups Phool Makhana
- 1 tbsp Butter/ Clarified Butter (Ghee)/Oil
- 1/4 tsp Salt or adjust
- 1/4 tsp Chilli powder or adjust
- 1/4 tsp Organic Turmeric
- 1/2 tsp Chat masala
Roasted Phool Makhana Recipe
- In a Pan, take 1 tsp Ghee/ butter/oil, 2 cups of Makhana.
- Roast them on Low-medium flame till they become crunchy.High flame will burn Makhana easily. Keep mixing while roasting.It took me 12 minutes.
- Take 2 Teaspoon Ghee/melted butter/oil in a bowl, add seasonings mentioned above.Mix. Add it to Makhana at the end. Mix well and turn off stove. Adding seasonings in beginning will burn them. I like to add Turmeric for it's color and health properties.
- Store em in air tight container once at room temperature.
Tips:
- You can add what ever seasonings you like. Ghee and salt are required. Rest you can modify. You can also add Garam masala, Cumin powder, coriander powder etc. Add more or less as per your liking.
- Pack em in school snack boxes or in Travel
