Having a cup of Tea in the morning is a must for me. Between making breakfast for kids, packing lunches it’s really hard for me to watch/Prep the Tea so it won’t spill n make a mess on stove.  And the other thing I hate the most is, scrubbing my tea vessel once Tea is done.

Instant pot solved both problems. In the morning  I put Tea in Instant pot and  start  it in such a way that the tea is ready by the time Kids leave home. Then I will have my Tea in peace;-). The vessel comes out clean with no mess to scrape. And lastly I don't have to baby sit while Tea is being made.

I use loose Tea powder. I don't like to use Tea bags. I feel they are not for Indian Chai.

Do try my other IP recipes, Sprouted Moong bhaji, Raw banana chanadal sabji, Chard Dal. I own a Instant Pot DUO60 model 6 qt. It's perfect for a family of 4.

Try my Butter biscuits/Nankhatai recipe for soft, melt in mouth cookies to serve with Tea or if you are a spice lover Vegetable pastry puffs/Egg puffs recipe.
Total time:
20 minutes
Servings :

Ingredients(I use US standard measuring; 1cup=8oz=250ml):
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3/4 th cup Milk (I use whole milk)
  • 2.5 tea spoons Tea powder
  • 2 tsp Sugar or sugar to taste (I like less sugar and added 1/2 tea spoon sugar )
  • 1 inch ginger crushed
  • 2 Cardamom pods optionally (pound lightly to open shell)
Instant Pot Masala chai recipe:

  • Pour 1 cup water in Instant pot inner pot. Mix all ingredients specified above in a bowl safe to use in IP. I use a stainless steel vessel.
  • Set Instant pot at manual pressure, high pressure, 5 minutes. NPR for 5 minutes. Release pressure after 5 minutes.
  • Now strain tea into cups using Tea strainer and enjoy.
  • We usually have a small cup of Tea so this serves 2 people. If you like a big cup of Chai, you can increase quantities accordingly.
  • check Tips below to make modifications and achieve a perfect cup of Tea :-).

Tips:
  • I use whole milk to make Tea. If you are using low fat milk you might need to add less water, more milk.
  • If you feel want stronger Tea, try adding more Tea powder or more water.
  • If you want tea to be less strong, reduce Tea powder, also pressure cooking time.
  • When having a Tea party, make Tea in IP so you can spend time with friends and not watching Tea.
