Written By Praveena Gudipati on Thursday, May 7, 2015 | 11:00 PM

What do you do with left over bread? Me.. my first pick would be bread Upma. It's quick to make, yummy and more over provides the important meal of the day ,Breakfast. Another bread recipe I like is Bread dosa. Will post it next.

I have half a pack of multigrain bread lying in fridge. Got it out to make sandwich but changed my mind and made this Upma.It can be had as it is.No need of any sides. You can have it with a nice n hot cup of coffee/Tea.You can also have it as a snack in the evening.

You can use any bread for this recipe. I have toasted the bread on pan. You can also toast it in toaster oven and then crumble. Add chopped veggies additionally if you want to. You can add carrots, Peas etc. Adjust the spice and oil according to your taste.

  1. Roast the peanuts and make a fine powder.

  3. Now crumble the bread with hand. It comes as small pieces which is fine.
  4. Now heat 1 tablespoon oil in a wide fry pan.
  5. Add the bread pieces to the pan and fry for 2-3 minutes. Keep mixing so the pieces won't burn in pan.
  6. Take em off into a bowl.
  7. Now add 1 tablespoon oil to the same pan.
  8. Add mustard and cumin seeds. When the seeds splutter add curry leaves and grated ginger.
  9. Add green chillies.
  10. Add onions. Sauté onion till transparent.
  11. Now add finely chopped tomatoes. Cook em till soft.

  12. At this point if the mixture in pan is too dry add little water.Add salt, turmeric, peanut powder.
  13. Now add bread pieces.Stir  well.
  14. Add lemon juice if needed. Serve hot.
