All non fermented Dosas are called Atlu in Telugu cuisine. But I have seen many call em Instant Dosa. Anyway whats in the name as long as it taste's good😉 and helps to visualize the dish.

This Oats dosa is prepared from Organic Oats flour, wheat flour batter. It does not need fermentation. So these are quick to make.It goes well with Onion chutney, peanut chutney or Karappodi. These Atlu are suitable for lunch box too. So instead of a bowl of oat meal try these Dosa next time.

Oats are never been my favorite till recently. The slimy, gooey bowl of oat meal always used to scare me😃. No offense to all oat meal lovers. But then one fine day I finally wanted to try em out for the sake of their health benefits. I simply took few spoonfuls of quick oats, water, cooked them for a minute and mixed in pinch of salt. Voila! It wasn't that bad I thought. Since then I started having it mostly for a light meal in the night and started giving it to my Tot too😀. He's got hooked more than me. So something good came out of this.

Anyways now my oats-o-phobia is gone I'm more excited to try different recipes. During this saga I got oat flour from the grocery store, thinking that I will use it in my multigrain crepes recipe.Once the Idli, Dosa batter runs out my next favorite breakfast item for whole family n especially for my Tot is crepes/Atlu/Instant dosa.

Nutrition: Oats are whole grain cereals. Rich in fiber n antioxidants.Oats help to lowel cholesterol levels and are heart healthy.Consumption of oat meal also reduces the risk of Type 2 diabetes. If you want to know more about Oats health benefits click below link.

Since oats are gluten free and to make crepes we need some gluten, I added wheat flour. It helps Dosa from breaking.

These oats Atlu are my Kids lunch box item too. He loves em drizzled with peanut powder, his favorite dip for everything.

I was so suspicious about the taste of these Atlu from the moment I 've decided to make these to the point they are in front me all ready to eat. I had my first bite. Yum! Surprisingly they are tastier than any other crepes I make. So one more family fav breakfast in my recipe book.

Servings:
Two (2)
Total time:
20 minutes

Ingredients: (I use US standard measuring; 1cup=8oz=250ml)

  • 1 cup Organic Oats flour
  • 1/3 cup Wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame seeds
  • Sea Salt Iodized  or salt to taste
  • 1 Grated Carrot, 1/4 cup chopped spinach optionally
  • Oil to make crepes

Oats Dosa/Oats Atlu  Recipe

  1. Mix all ingredients except oil.

  2. Make a thin batter by adding water. If the batter is thick the Dosa will come out thick.
  3. Heat a griddle/pan. I use Cast Iron griddle. No more nonstick in my kitchen.
  4. Take the batter in a small cup and start pouring on the griddle starting from outside to inside and going in circles.Take more batter if you need to finish circle.Do not try to spread it like dosa.
  5. You will immediately see a lace pattern. If you do not see that means the pan might not be hot enough or the batter is thick.
  6. Top the dosa with a teaspoon oil and cook on medium flame.
  7. Cook till bottom is browned.
  8. Flip it and cook for a minute.
  9. Take it on a serving plate.
  10. Repeat the process to make more.
  11. Serve with chutney or Peanut powder n Ghee or chutney of your choice.

Tips:
  • If Dosas are breaking add more wheat flour.
  • If Dosas are coming thicker, add more water.
  • Between each dosa mix batter with cup before pouring on the pan.
  • Using more oil will make them tasty but use according to your preference.
  • Add grated carrot, finely chopped spinach, Kale for more taste.
