Mango Mousse is a fluff, light, melt in the mouth dessert made with Whipped cream and of course Mangoes. it's a delicate dessert that can be whipped up in 10 minutes. It needs to be refrigerated before consuming. It’s a great recipe to try for Parties, Potluck as you can easily make it in bulk. And this recipe will be a star. This recipe does not use Gelatin or Agar Agar.

Mangoes are in season now. Last week I got a box of Haden (Marathon brand) Mangoes from Indian store. These are produce of Mexico I think. Since then I’ve been devouring em. The Mangoes are sweet. Only trick is to wait few days for them to ripen. These Mangoes are green and red in color and get a tinge of golden yellow when ripened. I smell to get a whiff of sweet Mango flavor and they are ready to be used. Another brand I like is, Ataulfo Mangoes available in many stores. I usually get em from Costco. They are also sweet when ripened properly.

My favorite combo is to eat Mangoes, on the side of pickle rice or Curd rice. Every Summer, when Mangoes are in season, It's a ritual that Mom cleans and keep chopped Mangoes on the Dining table for us to have em with or at the end of meal. Oh boy, love the Indian Mangoes. They are sinfully delicious. Now a days we are getting Indian Mangoes in USA, in season but they are pretty expensive. We do buy few boxes every year.

My favorite Mango recipes are Mango Lassi, Mango mousse, Mango Mastani and ... the list goes on. So let’s make Mango mousse before I tempt you more.Oh one more thing, if you don’t have Mangoes, you can still make this. How you ask, with Canned Mango pulp. Thats my favorite, as it’s handy. I’m not a fan of canned foods and I rarely use em. But this is an exception. Keep a can home for unplanned guest or for satisfying sudden cravings. I use Kesar Mango Pulp usually but any other is fine.

Last week I made Rasmalai cake with whipping cream. So I have left over whipped cream which I used in this recipe. I also gave instructions on how to make whipped cream if you don't have it already.

Ingredients :

  • 1.5 cups left over Whipped cream frosting or
  •  3/4th cup Whipping cream +1/4 cup sugar or less
  • 2 Mangoes (I used Haden Mangoes) or 1 Cup Mango pulp
  • Fruits to decorate optionally
Total time:
  • 1 hr 10 minutes (Includes 1 hr refrigeration)
Servings :

Mango Mousse recipe

  • If you don’t have left over whipped cream frosting, whip 3/4 th Cup of whipping cream till stiff peaks form. You can find whipping cream next to dairy in any American grocery stores. They sell 8 Oz (=1 cup) or big cartons.Take whipping cream in a chilled bowl and beat with a whisk or Electric hand mixer. Use a chilled bowl and whisk to get better results. Keep whipping cream refrigerated while working on Mangoes.
  • Peel and Chop 2 Mangoes and Puree them in a blender along with 1/4 cup Sugar or less (I used left over frosting which already has sugar so I did not add extra sugar). You can keep few of the Mango pieces aside to decorate. I used my awesome Ninja blender to puree Mangoes. No mangoes, Use 1 cup of canned Mango pulp.

  • Transfer to a serving bowls now or after refrigeration as per your convenience.
  • Keep in refrigerator for an hour to thicken Mousse.
  • Top with rest of Mango pieces or any fruits.
  • Serve .

Tips and Modifications:

  • You can add 4 Oz of cream cheese to the mixture. Beat cream cheese with whipped cream before adding Mango puree. It tastes super yum.
  • You can use Mango Pulp in place of Mangoes. I like canned Kesar Mango pulp. Add a Cup of Pulp to cream. If you have left over pulp, you can store in a container. Never save in the can it comes from. It will spoil. For longer storage , freeze pulp. When you want to use, thaw it outside naturally by keeping out for few hrs or defrost in microwave.
  • You can use frozen Mango pieces too.
  • You can add 2-3 Tbsp of Almond powder to the mousse. It gives a nice  flavor and added thickness. Yum.
  • You can add chopped fruits of choice in a layer alternating with Mousse layers for a fancy dessert. I use variety of use n throw Party cups in my parties and they are always a hit. I gave some ideas at the end of recipe.I use these cups for individual serving.
  • You can layer fruit jelly and Mango mousse together. So many choices.
  • Top it with a dollop of whipping cream to make more delicious.
